I am lucky enough to be able to accommodate a few decently-sized wine coolers in my home. Not everyone is as lucky as I am, though. When I think back to some of the houses and apartments I inhabited in the years before I became a wine connoisseur I can see that I wouldn’t have been so fortunate. For those who do not have much space, but do have a desire to house a generous amount of wine, I present this AKDY 28-bottle cooler.
I will take some time to talk more about its size in just a little bit. First, though, I want to touch on its other key selling point – its price. How could anyone be disappointed with a well-functioning wine cooler priced as competitively as this one? In fact, this thing is a fraction of the price of many smaller options on today’s market.
Will I Lose Anything Because of the Price?
I know that you’re all asking yourselves this question. Everyone wants to know how a cooler large enough to accommodate 28 bottles of wine is priced cheaper than many of those made to hold 18 bottles. I understand the concern here. It would seem that one of two things is happening here – either the other companies are ripping you off by charging what they’re charging, or this isn’t a very good cooler.
I’m here to tell you that neither of those assumptions is entirely true or entirely false. Let’s be honest here, we all know that companies mark up their products in order to make a profit. The truth is, though, that there is some wiggle room in there. Smart companies price their products at slightly less than other companies even though they won’t make as large of a profit, because they will sell more units overall. Even smarter companies will cut certain bells and whistles from their products so that they can charge even less, without sacrificing quality and still making a profit. This is all exactly what AKDY appears to have done here.
You are not getting a sub-par wine cooler just because it’s cheaper than many of the others. The only thing you’ll be missing out on is a few bells and whistles. But if budget is important to you, what are a few bells and whistles?
In all honesty, the only thing I can truly see that you will miss out on is a tinted glass door. Many companies tint the glass door of their wine coolers to stop UV rays from making their way in and affecting the wine as it chills. This isn’t a crucial point, though. Yes, it is said that UV rays can harm the wine, but there is nothing to say you cannot simply place this cooler in a location where sunlight is not directly landing on the door.
Cool Features and Awesome Extras
I wanted to make a very clear section for this part of the conversation, because I want all of our readers to understand that there are many great features built into this cooler, despite its low price.
Let’s start with the controls. You can adjust the interior temperature along a range of 54 to 66 degrees Fahrenheit by pressing the soft-touch buttons along the top of the unit. Prefer to work in Celsius? No problem, simply press the C/F button to switch over to Celsius temperatures. A blue LED display will show you the current temperature. As you alter the settings, it will show you the set temperature before flipping back to the current temperature. You can also use this panel to turn the interior light on and off.
One of the most impressive features in this competitively-priced cooler is its thermoelectric cooling system. I seriously did not think it was possible to get this kind of system for this kind of price. What’s great about a thermoelectric system is that you can’t hear it running! It won’t disturb you as you relax quietly by the fire with a glass of your favorite white or red. I even meditate next to my cooler without the tiniest distraction. Another great thing about these systems is that they do not create vibrations. This allows your wine to settle nicely, undisturbed.
All About the Size
Though I think this is one of this cooler’s biggest selling features, I left it for last because I already began to discuss it at the beginning of this article. It’s fairly obvious that this cooler is rather compact. For those of you interested in its actual dimensions, I will tell you that it measures just under 17 inches wide, about 20 inches deep, and approximately 28.5 inches tall. It will be easy to slide this little cooler under a bar top or countertop. Heck, you could even use it as a side table in your lounge area!
Overall
Well, the jury is in and the verdict is that this compact cooler is worth every penny of its extremely affordable price. I would recommend this cooler to experienced connoisseurs as quickly as I’d recommend it to a beginner. You’ll find it at a great price here on Amazon.com – for this size wine cooler it’s hard to find anything cheaper.
