Danby DWC612BLP 75 Bottle Wine Cooler Review

Got 75 Bottles of Wine to Store?

Me and my wines! In fact, me and my wine coolers! I’m sure that everyone who knows me thinks I might need some therapy, I’ve become so involved with the different models out there. I’m constantly looking at what capacity they have, what they look like, how much space they’ll take up and of course, how much they cost.

But then, I write the reviews here because I know people reading them are probably just like me so I don’t feel as if I’m misunderstood. Anyway, my latest “little” find was the Danby DWC612BLP 75 bottle wine cooler. My personal collection is nothing near this sort of size but I happened to come across one when I was on a wine tour recently.

Fortunately for me, I also came across a member of staff who is just as passionate about how wines are stored as well as what’s inside the bottles. He was more than willing to tell me all about this cooler.
What you should know is the reason why it caught my eye.

Overall Style
It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for some new clothes, a piece of furniture or an appliance for your home, what is it that attracts you first? Yes, that’s right, the look. Danby in my opinion has done a really good job with how this cooler looks (hence the fact it was on show during a tour I suppose). It stands at about 6 feet tall with a black cabinet that’s finished off in a platinum type trim which complements the cabinet perfectly.

The shelves inside are wooden which gives the whole cooler a somewhat rustic look that say’s it should stand proud in any professional wine cellar. The only thing I did notice is that the bottles were stacked pretty tightly together but I guess that’s how Danby managed to save on space. It can make it hard to see what wines are inside though. Having said that, I was told there is an interior light but this has to be switched on manually, it won’t come on just by opening the door.

Other Really “Cool” Features
Being a bit of a novice with wine coolers and collecting (but working hard not to be), I didn’t know you could get this feature. This Danby has a reversible door which means you can open it from either the left or the right which is really useful.

I also discovered that this unit has defrosting capabilities. When the cold control is “off”, it will start to defrost any build-up of ice in the refrigeration section and the water is sent to a drip tray which then evaporates using the heat from the compressor.

Temperature control is something you don’t really need to worry about, this model will do a fine job. Even if the power goes off for an hour or two it has been designed so the temperature isn’t really affected. Although, when the power comes back on it will need to be re-programmed to the settings you originally chose.

By and Large
I know I came across this cooler when I was doing a tour, but I could easily see it in the home as well because it doesn’t take up that much floor space and it’s really nice looking. The price isn’t something that will make a private collector fall of their chair either. You can check it out HERE at Amazon.com (they currently give a 16% discount, so make sure to get it in time).

If you can live with a smaller cooler, make sure to read my review on the NewAir 28 Bottle Wine Cooler. It’s a great wine cooler for less than half the money of the Danby DWC612BLP
