Impressive on All Fronts
In my endless search for the best wine coolers in every category, shape, and size, I have come to realize that one of the most impressive and important features of a wine cooler for a lot of people who own them is how quiet they are.
Many wine enthusiasts will be bothered by a noisy wine cooler, and for good reason: if a wine cooler is making a whole lot of noise, it is probably also causing a whole lot of vibrations, which can disturb the wine bottles within and exert a negative toll on the wine collection. Or you might simply not want another noisy fridge in your house. Either way, how quiet a wine cooler can be should definitely factor into your wine cooler purchasing considerations.
And, as was established in a previous review on its 18 bottle wine chiller, Ivation makes a really quiet wine cooler. But the great thing is that it doesn’t just make one super quiet wine cooler. It also makes a similarly quiet 12 wine bottle version. If you need the 18 bottle wine cooler (because you have, let’s say, 18 bottles of wine in your collection), please don’t hesitate to check out our review on the Ivation Red and White Countertop Wine Cooler or its close sibling, the Ivation 18 Bottle Dual Zone Thermoelectric Red & White Wine Cooler.
But if you don’t have that much space and you need a smaller wine cooler (or you have 12 or fewer bottles of wine you want to cool), then I am pleased to report that Ivation’s 12 bottle thermoelectric wine cooler does the trick just as quietly and with a smaller footprint to boot.
Impressively Quiet
So what makes this Ivation model so quiet? As is the case in the other models I mentioned, this 12 bottle unit uses an energy efficient thermoelectric cooling system that involves no compressor whatsoever. This reduces vibration to a minimum, allowing your wines to remain undisturbed and undergo their normal aging and settling processes, and makes the noise level nearly imperceptible. It is so quiet that you may even forget that it is there in the room just a few feet away from you.
Other Features
Just because I singled out its level of quietness as its most impressive feature does not mean that this Ivation model disappoints on other fronts. Quite the contrary, in fact. It has a sleek, elegant, all black exterior coupled with a digital touchscreen thermostat control integrated into the door, which is made of smoked tempered glass to insulate the wine and shield it from any harmful ultraviolet rays.
Also, this Ivation model is a single zone freestanding unit with a good temperature range (50 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit) that is suitable for most reds and most whites, and it is able to maintain the temperature that you select at a stable level to allow for the best environment for the aging of your wine.
Oh, and of course, it houses 12 750 mL bottles of wine. Each of the five shelves will cradle the wine bottles to keep them from moving and to keep the sediment from being disturbed. Again, this is all to achieve the perfect environment for allowing your wine to age beautifully and consistently.
The Bottom Line
Basically, this Ivation 12 bottle wine cooler isn’t just impressive on the noise level front. It’s actually pretty impressive on all fronts. Pick it up here at Amazon.com if you think this model is the one for you.
