Looking for a great starter wine cooler? Look no further
If you are the type of person who likes to shop around and do a fair amount of research before you buy something, then you’ve probably read through more than a few of the wine cooler reviews on our website. And honestly, quite a few of them are more or less the same in terms of value and functionality. A bunch of them even look the same. And that’s actually okay. After all, you basically can’t go wrong with any of the wine coolers recommended on our website, as long as they meet your needs and storage requirements.
But occasionally, I have the privilege of coming across a wine cooler that stands out and distinguishes itself from all the rest. It may be with a particular feature, a particular design choice, or a little bit of everything. This is the case with the Ivation Premium Stainless Steel 8 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler.
Honestly, I love the look of this thing. The name of this model contains the word “premium,” and the overall design definitely fits the bill. It looks premium. It feels premium. Every detail, down to the stainless steel buttons on the digital thermostat control panel, gives off a luxury feel. The whole wine cooler exudes “premium.”
The door of this unit is made of stainless steel, which achieves a super sleek and luxurious look. Think high end refrigerators and other large appliances. It’s simply gorgeous. The unit’s cabinet is constructed of a slightly darker metal, but the difference in color does not detract in the slightest from its aesthetics.
The digital temperature control panel, which is placed near the top of the door, is a pleasure to use. So many things are touchscreen, nowadays, but sometimes it’s nice to have a solid, well-designed metal button to give you that satisfying tactile feedback. Kind of like the power button on an iPhone. And of course, there’s also a button for turning the soft interior lighting on and off.
The door handle is not recessed, but I wouldn’t hold that against this beauty. The handle is nice and smooth and also large enough to grasp easily. And there are no protruding points where your sleeve could accidentally catch onto the handle and pull the door open. That won’t happen.
And let’s not forget about the shelves! They might be my favorite part of this model. A lot of wine cooler shelves are made of metal wire, but the shelves on this unit are constructed out of premium beechwood, which will not scratch your wine labels. Each of the three removable shelves will cradle two wine bottles, and there is space for two more at the bottom for a total of 8 standard size bottles.
Another great thing about this wine cooler is how small it is. It’s fewer than 10 inches wide, about a foot and a half tall, and fewer than two feet in depth. It’s the perfect size for standing on your kitchen countertop, and it won’t feel out of place next to all your other gorgeous kitchen appliances. It weighs in at only 19.6 pounds, which is light enough to be portable if you need it.
Okay. We’ve covered its appearance and storage capacity in detail, but what about its temperature range? I am pleased to report that it has a pretty wide range, from 46 to 64 degrees F. This makes it suitable for most red wines and most white wines. And the solid polyurethane heavy foam insulation as well as the Thermopane smoked tempered UV light blocking glass door will ensure that the temperature is consistent, remaining at the temperature you choose without fluctuations. The insulation and airtight seal also keep your wine at a consistent humidity level.
You know what? It’s also super quiet! This is thanks to the cooling system, which is thermoelectric and not compressor based. This minimizes not only noise but also vibrations, which could disturb the sediment in your wine and keep it from settling and aging properly.
The Last Word
What else is there to say? I love the look, feel, and functionality of this wine cooler. It is truly premium. If this one sounds like a winner to you, you can check it out here at Amazon.com.
