When to Use a Wine Cooler

I used to be one of those people that thought I was not worthy of owning a wine cooler. I mean, I enjoy wine (responsibly of course), but I never considered myself an expert. I just know that I like to sample both reds and whites, and I have an avid interest in knowing what wines go best with what foods.

The thought of purchasing a wine cooler just somehow made me think I was taking it all a step too far.
How wrong I was!

One thing I asked myself was when to use a wine cooler?
There was no point in me investing money in something if I had no idea about the answer to this one and, if you’re reading this, you will want to know as well. So, below are a few reasons I discovered when I was researching my first cooler.

The More Expensive Wines
For some reason, I’m always receiving various different wines as a gift. At first I thought I was over doing the whole thing, but when I asked I was told that my friends and family are aware of my interest and buying the odd bottle that would go beyond my budget seemed like a good idea.

More Exclusive WinesNow, this is when you really do need a wine cooler. I’m not about to open a $100 bottle of wine just because I have a tasty steak to look forward to for dinner. Instead, I found that I prefer to read up about the brand I’ve been given. How old it is, what flavors it has, does it taste better with age and, most importantly, what temperature it should be kept at.

For the most part, the more expensive wines need more care and attention and it was when I first received a very expensive Shiraz and found out it would quickly go bad if not kept at a certain temperature, I knew I had to a buy a wine cooler.

For Parties
You don’t have to be someone like me (a collector). It’s a really good idea to have a wine cooler for the party season.
Throwing a PartyNot only do the bottles take up room in your fridge that’s probably better used for food, and wine coolers are also designed to keep your drinks at the perfect temperature.

They’re available in just about any size you want so they can be pretty portable. This means you can keep a cooler in a separate place at home such as your garage and the drinks inside are kept just right.

Protection for Your Collection
If you like to collect wines, you’re in it for the long haul!
Wine CollectionFor those of you that are new to this hobby, you won’t be able to do without a wine cooler of some sort. The reason for this is you don’t want your collection too age too quickly or, indeed too slowly.

You also don’t want your collection open to the elements that can cause it to go bad.

These are just a few reasons I’ve discovered along the way and believe me, I’ve made some mistakes by not investing in a wine cooler simply because I thought the fridge would do.
