House a Mid-Sized Wine Collection without Spending a Fortune
You’ve heard the saying “cheapest isn’t always best” and, in many cases this is true. However I just had to tell you about the Whynter WC28S SNO 28 bottle wine cooler. So, let’s dive straight in. In the following few words you’re going to find out why I think this model is one of the best this manufacturer has to offer:
Good Looks
The one slight grievance I have here is that many other websites describe this model as “Platinum”. Well, it might be in terms of color but that’s where the similarity ends. The cabinet is silver and made from metal.
The door and trim are also silver but this is made from plastic. This might put a few of you off, but for the price you can understand why Whynter has decided to do this. In fact, it doesn’t look cheap at all and gives the whole cooler a very clean look that will fit in with just about any décor you have. Add to this the soft interior light, and you really do have a very nice looking wine cooler.
The glass in the door is (of course) double paned so you won’t have to worry about those pesky UV rays ruining the precious wines you have stored inside. You also benefit from an ergonomic bar handle.
How it Works
The controls with this wine cooler are very simple with a clear LED display on the front. Incidentally, for those of you that care, the temperature can be displayed in either Fahrenheit of Celsius. Although only a single zone cooler, this model does use thermo-electric cooling technology. What this essentially means is that you won’t suffer a large amount of noise and there will be little to no vibration which can disturb the sediment in some wines. This type of cooling system also ensures there are no C.F.C’s emitted and it doesn’t deplete the ozone so, it’s eco-friendly as well.
Other Features
If you have kids you’ll love this feature! This wine cooler is equipped with a cylinder lock and the manufacturer has kindly included 2 keys so, if one goes missing, you have a spare. The lock itself isn’t the most robust but it will do a very good job at keeping your children away from something that could otherwise be quite accessible to them.
For the price, you also get a pretty good temperature range. It is a single zone cooler but you can cool your wines from 52 – 65F making it perfect for both reds and whites.
What You Might Not Like
Not everything in life is perfect and the only issue I have with this wine cooler is the space. It does have 6 racks (which are removable) and at full capacity it will hold 28 bottles of wine. However, if you have slightly larger than the average sized bottles, you will lose capacity. In fact, once full even the standard sized bottles can look a little tightly packed.
Overall, for the money, I don’t think there are many other brands out there that offer the features this does. Of course, with the money you spend on this wine cooler, the more you’ll have left to spend on those lovely wines you’ve had your eye on!
You can get the Whynter WC28s SNO for little over $200 HERE at Amazon, so for the price you pay for other 28 bottle wine coolers you can almost buy this one and fill it up!
However, if money isn’t your main concern, you should also read my review on the 28 bottle NewAir AW281E or even the dual zone Koolatron Wine Cellar (great if you’d like to store both reds and whites). They’re my best picks.
